INSPIRATION: I Married a Witch

New Articles
Editors note... so this is old content from pre-2004. Eventually Kidman would appear in the movie Bewitched (2005). The TV show Betwitched has been said to be inspired by I Married a Witch and its likely this was the reason for obtaining the rights.

Interestingly there are rumblings about a new remake in 2023

I Married a Witch - Script purchased by Kidman & Cruise

Veronica Lake as Jennifer the Witch

Well unfortunately the predictable happened and the resulting movie was an underwhelming and rather lacklustre comedy ’Bewitched’ movie. Lake’s movie "I Married a Witch" is credited as the inspiration of the long-running and well loved TV show and a natural starting point for a movie remake of the TV series.

The original cast included Veronica Lake (as Jennifer the witch), Fredric March (as the descendant of her executioner).

The break up of Tom and Nicole meant the project was shelved until Kidman decided she would take on the part of Jennifer and did indeed revert much to the style of the TV show of the same name.

October 13, 1997 Tom Cruise Falls for a Witch

Tom Cruise may be setting himself up for a punch line, but that hasn’t stopped the actor and Mission: Impossible co-producer from signing on with Columbia Pictures for a new version of I Married a Witch.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Cruise will produce the film with his CW Prods. partner, Paula Wagner, and while there’s no deal yet in place for him to star, sources said the project would be tailored as a vehicle for him and his wife, Nicole Kidman.

The two have been filming Stanley Kubrick’s Eyes Wide Shut in London for the past year.

I Married a Witch is a remake of the 1942 film starring Veronica Lake as a spirited gal who travels to the present to punish the descendant (Fredric March) of the man who burned her at the stake in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1690.

Tom Cruise is set to create and produce a remake of the 1942 Veronica Lake film ’I Married a Witch’. Nicole Kidman has not been ruled out as playing ’Jennifer’ the witch.

The original cast included Veronica Lake (as Jennifer the witch), Fredric March (as the descendant of her executioner).

More will be added here as and when new information is released.

The break up of Tom and Nicole ment the project was shelved but is now looking likely that Kidman will star as Jennifer and may even revert much of the style of the movie to the tv show of the same name.

Lets hope the movie will tip the wink to Lake again in the way L.A. Confidential did and revive interest in her again.
