The best part is her final scene that shows a serious amount of emotional impact while actually requiring a rather stoic performance. It it one of my favourite Lake scenes and never fails to get to me.
Author: Mark R Nash (Wales, UK)This is a classic film about the trials and tribulations of Army nurses in Bataan and Correigador during the early days of World War II. It depicts the early efforts of these brave women quite well due to it's versatile cast, great action scenes and teary romancing. It is a little dated, but definitely entertaining and worth watching.
The cast is led by Claudette Colbert as Lt. Janet Davidson and Paulette Goddard as Lt. Joan O'Doul in a role that earned her an Oscar nomination. As far as I'm concerned Veronica's character and performance was far more interesting and powerful than Goddard's. It's too bad that she didn't have more of a lengthy role in the film. Maybe that would have helped her get some critical acclaim. Then again from what she says in her book, she didn't exactly have a lot of support in Hollywood so probably not. Veronica's short part in the film is a memorable one nevertheless, and is quite gripping. Check out the part of Kansas played by Sonny Tufts. Veronica has some interesting things to say about this crazy character in her autobiography.
